Nonlinear Elliptic Boundary Value Problems
It is the object of the present note to present a new nonlinear version of the orthogonal projection method for proving the existence of solutions of nonlinear elliptic boundary value problems. The key point in this method is the application of a new general theorem concerning the solvability of nonlinear functional equations in a reflexive Banach space involving operators which may not be cont...
متن کاملOverdetermined problems for fully nonlinear elliptic equations
We prove that the existence of a solution to a fully nonlinear elliptic equation in a bounded domain Ω with an overdetermined boundary condition prescribing both Dirichlet and Neumann constant data forces the domain Ω to be a ball. This is a generalization of Serrin’s classical result from 1971.
متن کاملOverdetermined boundary value problems for the ∞-Laplacian
We consider overdetermined boundary value problems for the ∞-Laplacian in a domain Ω of Rn and discuss what kind of implications on the geometry of Ω the existence of a solution may have. The classical ∞-Laplacian, the normalized or game-theoretic ∞-Laplacian and the limit of the p-Laplacian as p→∞ are considered and provide different answers. Mathematics Subject Classification (2000). 35R35, 4...
متن کاملElliptic Boundary-Value Problems
In the first part of this chapter we focus on the question of well-posedness of boundary-value problems for linear partial differential equations of elliptic type. The second part is devoted to the construction and the error analysis of finite difference schemes for these problems. It will be assumed throughout that the coefficients in the equation, the boundary data and the resulting solution ...
متن کاملOn an Eighth Order Overdetermined Elliptic Boundary Value Problem
We consider the overdetermined boundary value problem for the 4-harmonic operator, Δ4 = Δ(Δ3) , and show that if the solution of the problem exists, then the domain must be an open N -ball (N 2) . As a consequence of overdetermined problems mean value results are obtained for harmonic, biharmonic, triharmonic and 4-harmonic functions.
